If approved, legal recreational marijuana could cause big issues for Arizona employers in 2020

Though a proposed initiative to get recreational marijuana on the November 2020 ballot in Arizona was designed with employers in mind, it’s not yet winning over a lot of converts.

“The key difference between this policy and what was proposed in 2016 are the rights that employers have,” said Stacy Pearson, senior vice president of the Arizona market for Strategy 360, the campaign consulting firm for the Smart & Safe Arizona Initiative.

While organizers are still a long way from getting the initiative on the 2020 ballot, Pearson is confident voters will embrace legalized marijuana.

“We need 237,000 signatures by [next] July,” she said. “We are ahead of our projections. We will have no problem with that.”
