Last night the Scottsdale Planning Commission unanimously approved the downtown redevelopment project proposed by Spring Creek Partners known as Southbridge 2.0.
It’s an extension of the late Scottsdale developer Fred Unger’s vision, activating the Arizona Canal and bringing life to downtown businesses. The Unger family purchased downtown properties and carefully assembled a master plan, allowing for coordinated development of the area. The plan that they’ve spent years solidifying was described repeatedly as “visionary,” with 10 citizens speaking in support of the project.
Three commissioners commented on the depth of support for the project. Supporters include the Coalition of Greater Scottsdale and the homeowner’s association surrounding the project, along with multiple south Scottsdale leaders.
Carter Unger, Fred Unger’s son, stood at the podium after years of working with the community and elevating his father’s vision to reality and thanked those in attendance for continuously working to make the project better.
The case will now move on to the city council.
Jordan Rose from Rose Law Group is the land-use attorney representing Southbridge. Michael Marcoux from Allen+Philp Partners is the architect. Dawn Cartier with CivTech is the traffic engineer.
