Construction is planned to start “as soon as possible” on an expansion and renovation of the Scottsdale Plaza Resort, which will add three restaurants, a new spa and cafe building and 64 new hotel rooms to the nearly 50-year-old resort.
The first phase of the hotel was built in 1976, with the next phase built in 1980. The new construction and renovation also will update the existing rooms, which include some of Paradise Valley’s largest resort suites, said Jordan Rose, the attorney representing the resort’s owner, in a public hearing.
The Paradise Valley Town Council unanimously approved the expansion and renovation in June after more than a year of work on the design and plans.
A partnership between Highgate, a hotel management, investment and development firm, and Rockpoint, a private equity firm, bought the resort in 2021 for $90.75 million, according to real estate database Vizzda. Rose said the development team does not have an estimate of what the renovation and expansion will cost.
The resort is located on the northwest corner of Scottsdale and Indian Bend roads.
“While the Plaza has always had a solid, loyal customer base and the facilities have been well maintained, they recognized the potential to expand its customers with the addition of upgraded amenities and new guestrooms,” Rose said in an email.
